The Haunted
The Swedish/Danish thrash-monsters are back!

The Haunted’s fourth album, ”rEVOLVEr”, will be in stores on the 18th October. We going to run a review of the album when we’re a little closer to the release-date, but let me tell you right away that it’s a frickin’ great metal album that’ll have any true The Haunted fan grinning from ear to ear. Of course, with an as important release as this one, we just couldn’t resist hooking up with the band over the phone when getting the offer.

So with a new The Haunted album coming out what should the listener be expecting? According to the band it’s going to be sort of the same thing as with any other The Haunted family, only this time around they have their old singer, Peter Dolving, back in the line-up, which is a definite strength because he has a wider vocal range than Markus had. But the decision of taking the mixing somewhere else has also been for the better. On the previous album, “One Kill Wonder” from 2003, things were perhaps a little stressed with the mixing, which, according to the band, resulted in a somewhat muddy sound. This time, however, the mixing was handled by Tue Madsen in Denmark’s Antfarm Studios, and the result is the clearest The Haunted sound ever.

Although the CD doesn’t drop until October 18th, promo-copies have already been shipped out to tons of people within the music-business and the first reviews have already started coming in. So far it seems everything has been positive, and it’s hard to see how anyone would have it otherwise. But being a rather new band within the melo death/thrash scene (The Haunted formed in 1998), how does a band this young get as much ahead of their peers as they have, gaining an almost legendary status as one of the most influential bands within the genre, and in this short period of time?

Obviously it has something to do with the fact that their music just kicks major butt, but it might also have something to do with the fact that all the band-members come from other respected metal bands (At The Gates, Invocator, etc.), and that the fans of these bands have been backing them from day one. It doesn’t change the fact, however, that there’s something special about The Haunted and that people seem to have noticed that. Even before signing to Century Media these guys had major labels at the doorstep, but understandably they would rather be a high priority on Century Media than a lower priority on a major label... And just see where it brought them.
